Just a note regarding the name 'Lowbridge...Sir-
Just a note regarding the name 'Lowbridge', which suddenly appears in the Baker family in the form of John Lowbridge Baker (1779-1822). His mother's father, Robert Bright, had married Dorothy (1717-1781), daughter of Edward Lowbridge (1685-1742), of Worcester, Alderman, Receiver-General of Worcestershire. Interestingly, another of Edward's daughters, Mary (bap. 1710), married Benjamin Johnson (d. 1773), Mayor of Worcester 1742, High Sheriff of Worcestershire 1763, and their daughter, Martha (b. 1745), married, in 1774, William Baker (d. 1804), son of William Baker (fl. 1766) of Bank House, Kempsey, Worcs. I consider a link between these two lines of Bakers to be very likely, but have not as yet succeeded in establishing it.

Mary Lowbridge (as above) was described as 'co-heir' of her father Edward; as such I should think Dorothy (who married Robert Bright) was of similar status.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
